Official Notice

LumoraOS has been discontinued.

LumoraOS is no longer under active development and is considered permanently discontinued.

This decision was made due to a combination of technical and operational limitations. The system relies on a closed-source kernel, which significantly restricts development flexibility and makes long-term maintenance increasingly difficult.

Additionally, the ongoing server infrastructure costs, maintenance overhead, and required development resources are no longer sustainable for the team.

Status: Discontinued Kernel: Closed Source Reason: Server Costs

Official Statement

LumoraOS began as an ambitious project aiming to deliver a unique and advanced system experience. Over time, however, core architectural limitations and rising operational costs created barriers that could not be reasonably overcome.

Continuing development would require a complete redesign of critical components, alongside significant financial and time investment. As a result, the project has been officially discontinued.

There are currently no plans for a relaunch, rewrite, or successor project.

— LumoraOS Development Team

Why was LumoraOS discontinued?

Due to a combination of a closed-source kernel, high development complexity, and unsustainable server and infrastructure costs.

Will LumoraOS return?

No. The project is considered permanently discontinued with no planned revival.

Will it become open-source?

No. The underlying kernel restrictions prevent this from being possible.

Is there a successor project?

No. There are currently no alternative or follow-up projects planned by the team.
